The SensMax S1 is a wireless infrared people counter for retail stores, shopping centers, offices, and public facilities. Three invisible infrared beams (6°) detect every person passing through with 95% accuracy at an optimal passage width of 1–5 m (max. 9 m). Data is automatically transmitted via radio to a SensMax gateway every 20 minutes and stored in the SensMax cloud. Available in three range variants: S1 (50 m, 2.4 GHz), S1 LR (150 m, 868 MHz), and S1 SLR (800 m, 868 MHz). Battery life up to 2 years, internal storage for 25 days, tamper protection via an audible alarm.

Note:SensMax devices communicate via a proprietary, manufacturer-specific protocol (868 MHz/2.4 GHz)—not LoRaWAN. Sensors, gateways, and displays can only be combined within the SensMax ecosystem, with the appropriate range type (LR only with LR, etc.) and the SensMax Cloud for data analysis.

How does the sensor track movement and what is its primary application?

The sensor uses infrared beam crossing technology for uni-directional movement tracking, making it suitable for retail stores, shopping malls, office buildings, and public facilities like libraries or museums.

What are the primary differences between the SensMax S1 Standard, LR, and SLR variants?

The variants differ in both wireless connectivity range and radio frequency. The Standard model supports up to 50m at 2.4 GHz, while the LR (Long Range) and SLR (Super Long Range) models operate at 868 MHz, providing ranges of up to 150m and 800m respectively.

How is the device powered and what is the expected battery life?

The sensor is powered by standard AA batteries, which provide a battery lifetime of up to 2 years.

What is the recommended passage width for maintaining high counting accuracy?

While the maximum passage width is 9 meters, the optimal range for the best accuracy is between 1 meter and 5 meters.

How much data can the sensor store internally and how is it delivered?

The sensor has an internal memory that holds 25 days of hourly data. This information is automatically delivered to the software via a LAN gateway every 20 minutes.

Does the sensor include any security features against tampering?

Yes, the device is equipped with tamper protection that triggers a sound alarm and sends a report to the software if the sensor is disturbed.
