Smart Country Convention: The example of the IoT model location ‘SMARTinfeld’ demonstrates proven IoT solutions for villages, regions and cities.

Specialised sensors, a camera for live traffic monitoring, outdoor gateways, an open-source platform for municipal data and a demo setup of a switchable street light: at the stand of smart city pioneer Alpha-Omega Technology, iot-shop and its partners iotec, Kerlink and Hypertegrity are presenting the latest hardware and software for sensor-based LPWAN applications.

Schimberg and Berlin, 9 September 2025 – Alpha-Omega Technology GmbH & Co. KG, an expert in IoT solutions, is the initiator of the award-winning IoT model location ‘SMARTinfeld’. With ‘SMARTinfeld’, it has been doing pioneering work in the field of smart cities in the municipality of Martinfeld in Thuringia for ten years. From 30 September to 2 October 2025, the company will be present at the Smart Country Convention (SCCON) with partners from its iot-shop auf der Smart Country Convention (SCCON). Visitors can find out about the tried-and-tested applications in ‘SMARTinfeld’ at the joint stand. They will also find other current hardware and complete solutions for the sensor-based Internet of Things. The exhibitors will have everything they need to implement functioning solutions with LPWAN technologies such as LoRaWAN, NB-IoT, mioty or wireless M-Bus: from sensors and gateways to the processing of measured values in a secure data platform. Alpha-Omega Technology operates iot-shop, the largest online shop for LPWAN solutions in Europe, supplying users worldwide. In Hall 25, Stand 344, visitors will be able to see, among other things, the sensor-based traffic monitoring system Iotraffic from Iotec GmbH, LoRaWAN gateways for indoor and outdoor use from Kerlink SA and an open-source data platform from  Hypertegrity AG specialised for urban use. IoT highlights from other providers will also be on display, such as the LoRaWAN smoke detectors from Hager Safety Deutschland GmbH for indoor use and the smart radiator thermostats from building automation specialists MClimate and DNT. These have the potential to reduce heating costs by up to 35 per cent.

Smart Country Convention: The example of the IoT model location ‘SMARTinfeld’ demonstrates proven IoT solutions for villages, regions and cities.

Together with the municipality of Martinfeld, local company Alpha-Omega Technology is implementing sensor-based IoT applications under realistic conditions. For ten years, the model location ‘SMARTinfeld’ has been demonstrating how IoT solutions work for an entire community and make village life sustainable. The project is continuously being developed: Alpha-Omega Technology and the municipality regularly test and optimise new sensor-based IoT applications for rural areas. ‘SMARTinfeld’ was one of the winners of the ‘Digital Places in the Land of Ideas’ competition in the ‘Smart Municipality’ category. The competition annually honours the best digital projects for rural areas. Managing Director Jan Bose brings the many years of experience and insights gained from this project to bear in projects for his customers. This is because smart city projects are usually limited to urban environments. As a result, they do not take into account the special needs of rural communities.

Creating added value with intelligent infrastructure

The iot-shop, operated by Alpha-Omega Technology, provides users with all the hardware they need to set up their own Internet of Things in towns, villages and regions. Over 1,000 products from more than 100 suppliers have been delivered to over 50 countries since 2017. Jan Bose, Managing Director of Alpha-Omega Technology, says: "Our partnership at the Smart Country Convention provides a realistic and practical insight into how smart solutions can be implemented for villages, regions and cities, enabling the rapid added value of an intelligent infrastructure. All solutions are individually tailored to the needs of the respective municipality. We have already supported over 5,000 companies and municipalities in the implementation of IoT projects with hardware components, and we want to showcase this expertise at the Smart Country Convention."

At the Smart City Convention, Alpha-Omega Technology and three partners from iot-shop will be showcasing examples of currently popular products and solutions for IoT projects in a 30 square metre exhibition space:

Street lighting and IoT data from ‘SMARTinfeld’

Alpha-Omega Technology brings its self-developed IoT solution ‘Street Lighting’ to life with a switchable demo setup of a street light from Schréder GmbH. The product makes it easier for cities and municipalities to get started with the digitalisation of street lighting. Actuators with IoT networking based on LoRaWAN radio technology are used. A mobile app for local lighting offers map overviews, control options and push notifications, among other things. At the joint stand, the IoT company also gives visitors an insight into data from the ‘SMARTinfeld’ model location and provides information about the project.

Smart traffic monitoring from Iotec

Iotec, a provider of smart hardware and software solutions, is presenting a data protection-compliant solution for traffic monitoring at the joint stand. The Iotraffic measurement system records how many road users pass through a specific area around the clock. A camera recognises seven different categories. The camera sends data on the type of road users to a central data platform at regular intervals via LoRaWAN or NB-IoT. Iotraffic is already being used successfully in the model location ‘SMARTinfeld’. Under the Ioplant brand, Iotec also develops smart IoT solutions for the environmental sector – from targeted irrigation of young trees to digital monitoring of dykes.

Popular outdoor gateway from Kerlink

French IoT network infrastructure solutions specialist Kerlink SA is renowned for its high-quality gateways. Among other things, Kerlink's robust outdoor gateway  iStation , which has recently been used in many large IoT projects worldwide, will be on display at the joint stand. The gateway is also used in the ‘SMARTinfeld’ model location. It offers 4G connectivity and has integrated internal antennas for GPS, 4G and LoRaWAN.

Hypertegrity open-source platform

The provider of urban data platforms will be exhibiting at the joint stand with Urban Data Space Plattform (UDSP) is a modular, cloud-agnostic infrastructure for cities, counties and municipal IT service providers. The platform complies with DIN SPEC 91357, is based on the FIWARE framework, is GDPR-compliant, multi-tenant capable and meets the internationally recognised standard for information security management systems (ISMS) ISO-27001. It can be operated locally, in a municipal data centre or as SaaS. The UDSP thus fulfils all requirements for the secure and standardised processing of municipal data, whether for environmental monitoring, heat registers and traffic analyses or as an open data portal. More than 50 municipalities are already using the platform productively, including flagship projects such as the FUTR HUB Berlin TXL and the digital village twin Etteln.
