The Lobaro Gateway V4 DIN-Rail is a multiprotocol data concentrator designed to read meters and field devices via wireless and wired interfaces and to forward the data to a backend system.
The device is mounted on a 4-module-wide DIN rail and connected to the existing control cabinet infrastructure via screw terminals for DC or 230-V AC power. Key technical features at a glance:
- Meter Reading: Receives Wireless M-Bus signals (compatible with EN 13757-4 and OMS 4) from up to 65,000 meters wirelessly and reads up to 25 wired M-Bus meters (expandable to 250).
- Flexible Data Transmission: Transmits collected data via NB-IoT or LTE-M cellular networks, LoRaWAN, or Ethernet WAN, enabling deployment in locations where only one type of connection is available or where redundancy is required.
- Scheduled and Filtered Transmission: The measured values are temporarily stored and forwarded according to configurable CRON schedules, with configurable allowlists and blocklists available for each meter, thereby reducing unnecessary data volume.
The gateway supports Modbus ASCII/RTU and Modbus TCP/IP in read mode via RS-485, making it compatible with common building automation and field device protocols. The data is transmitted to MQTT or the Lobaro platform, and the device supports remote configuration as well as OTA firmware updates via USB or the network. A typical application is automatic meter reading and sub-metering in residential or commercial buildings, where heat, water, electricity, and gas meters of various types and protocols must be read centrally without the need for on-site data collection. The gateway addresses this scenario by combining various meter interfaces with multiple backhaul options into a single device. The standard version uses a FAKRA Type D antenna connector that combines LTE with wireless M-Bus or LoRa; an SMA antenna variant is available upon request.
Note: Does not include an antenna. For wireless operation (LTE, wM-Bus, LoRaWAN), a combination antenna with a FAKRA Code D connector is required, such as the Lobaro 1201450 Panorama IN2214. Alternatively, any FAKRA-D antenna rated for 791–960 MHz and 1710–1880 MHz with a gain of at least 2 dBi is suitable, such as the ATTB 4115.01 for mounting on a DIN rail.

The device is designed for remote meter reading, submetering, heat pump efficiency evaluation, energy management, and general data logging in building technology environments.
The gateway supports Wireless M-BUS (S1 and C1/T1), OMS 4, Sensus RF Bubble Up, and Müller Funk (ME-Protokoll). It is capable of receiving data from up to 65,000 wireless meters.
The gateway provides a Wired M-BUS Master, RS-485, Modbus (ASCII, RTU, and TCP/IP), and two Ethernet ports for integration with building management systems and field devices.
The integrated M-BUS Master supports up to 25 wired meters by default, with an option to expand this capacity to 250 meters. It includes features like automatic meter scanning and overload protection.
Data can be transmitted via cellular networks using NB-IoT or LTE-M, via LoRaWAN, or through the dedicated Ethernet WAN port.
The device standardly transmits data in CBOR or JSON formats via MQTT. It also supports CBOR via CoAP when used with the Lobaro Platform.
The gateway offers flexible power options, supporting 9V to 36V DC via a terminal block or 230V AC via a SMGW terminal plug.
Configuration can be performed locally via USB or remotely. The device supports remote configuration, Over-the-Air (OTA) firmware updates, and flexible task scheduling using CRON parameters.
