Sensoterra soil moisture sensors measure the volumetric water content of the soil. They are all completely wireless and use the LoRaWAN network to monitor your data from your fields 24/7. After a quick and easy installation, you can easily access the data via the Sensoterra if there is a TTN network in the area.
The sensors are available in different versions (local or cloud mode). The local mode is only available in 15 and 30 cm, but the cloud mode is available in 15, 30, 60 and 90 cm.
When using your own LNS (LoRa Network Server) the integration depends on the provider your LNS is based on. Sensoterra has created an interpreter for most common LoRa networks such as Chirpstack and Senet. If the LNS isn’t supported by Sensoterra the sensor payload must be processed via the Sensoterra API. The payload structure itself is not publicly documented, but all data can be accessed through the API once the integration is set up. The Sensoterra app can be used regardless of the network provider, as long as the sensors are routed through the Sensoterra backend. For local mode no backend integration is needed, and data can be decoded locally instead.
The costs for the calibration library are already included in the "local mode" variant for the entire service life of the sensor. The costs for "cloud mode" are €30 per year and are included for 3 years. From the start of the 4th year, there is an annual fee of €30 for the use of the calibration library per sensor. Billing then takes place directly via Sensoterra.
