The VFG54+ LRW is a mains-powered contact sensor (15–24 V DC/AC) with an analog 0–10 V output and LoRaWAN EU868 for measuring temperatures on pipes and curved surfaces (−20 to +80 °C, ±0.5 K). The battery-powered version, the VFG54+ BAT LRW, operates independently using two AA 3.6-V lithium batteries (approx. 5-year battery life)—without an external power supply. Features common to both versions: spring-loaded brass probe for direct pipe contact, UV-resistant USE-M PC housing, IP65 rating, and installation parallel or perpendicular to the pipe. Configuration via Bluetooth app, USB, or LoRaWAN downlink.

What are the primary applications for the VFG54 sensor?

The sensor is specifically designed for measuring temperature on pipes and curved surfaces using a spring-loaded brass contact sensor, making it ideal for integration into LoRaWAN wireless sensor networks.

What is the main difference between the VFG54+ LRW and VFG54+ BAT LRW variants?

The VFG54+ LRW is a wired model that requires a 15..24 V power supply and offers analog output signals, whereas the VFG54+ BAT LRW is a battery-powered version designed for standalone wireless LoRaWAN operation using two 3.6 V AA lithium batteries.

What temperature ranges can the VFG54+ series sensors handle?

Both models feature a sensor pocket designed for temperatures between -35 °C and +120 °C. The operating temperature for the enclosure electronics is -35 °C to +70 °C for the wired VFG54+ LRW, and -20 °C to +70 °C for the battery-powered VFG54+ BAT LRW. The measuring range for the battery-powered variant is -20 °C to +70 °C.

Is the device protected against outdoor elements and UV radiation?

Yes, the device features an IP65-rated enclosure made of UV-resistant polycarbonate, making it suitable for environments with up to 85% relative humidity and short-term condensation.

How long does the battery last in the THK-850317 model?

The battery-operated variant typically offers a battery life of approximately 5 years, depending on the configured measurement intervals and ambient conditions.

How are the VFG54+ device settings configured?

Configuration for the battery-powered VFG54+ BAT LRW is performed through the Thermokon LRWapp, uConfig software, or LoRaWAN downlink commands via Bluetooth or micro-USB. The wired VFG54+ LRW model uses the Thermokon USEapp, LoRaWAN downlink commands, or physical jumpers; Bluetooth configuration on the wired model requires an optional Thermokon Bluetooth dongle.
