The RAK BPF03 is a cavity bandpass filter designed to improve the performance of LoRaWAN gateways in environments with heavy interference. The filter is connected between a gateway and an external antenna using standard RF coaxial cable. Key technical features at a glance:

  • Suppression: Attenuates out-of-band signals by more than 75 dB to suppress interference from cellular networks or radar.
  • Efficiency: Keeps insertion loss below 2.5 dB to preserve the LoRa link budget and signal strength.
  • Protection: Uses an aluminum alloy housing with an IP67 rating to ensure reliable operation during outdoor use.

The high-Q resonant design includes standard N-type connectors and a dedicated grounding pad for surge protection.

What is the primary function of this band-pass filter?

This is a high-Q resonant cavity filter designed to provide precise band isolation with minimal insertion loss, ensuring high signal quality.

In which scenarios is this filter typically applied?

This filter is designed for use in urban rooftop deployments, industrial environments, smart city infrastructure, and high-density IoT networks. It suppresses out-of-band interference from sources such as LTE, 5G, radar systems, and industrial noise, which helps safeguard gateway receiver sensitivity and reduce packet loss.

What level of signal loss and attenuation does the device provide?

The filter features an insertion loss of less than 2.5 dB within the 863–870 MHz pass band. It provides high stop-band attenuation of over 70 dB for the 0–860 MHz and 873–4000 MHz frequency ranges.

What are the power handling and reflection specifications?

The device supports an input power of up to 100 W and maintains a Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) of less than 1.25 to minimize signal reflection.

Can this filter be used in extreme outdoor environments?

Yes, the filter is built for durability with an IP67 waterproof rating and can operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to +65 degrees Celsius.

What are the physical dimensions and connector requirements for installation?

The unit utilizes N-Female connectors, weighs 1.5 kg, and has physical dimensions of 228 x 164.6 x 51.5 mm.
